A research unit co-operated by the Institut Mines Telecom Atlantique (IMT-Atlantique), the Institut National de Physique Nucl?aire et de Physique des Particules (IN2P3) of CNRS and the Universit? de Nantes, the SUBATECH laboratory is specialised in nuclear physics, radiochemistry and their applications.

Martinez Garcia has been working at the SUBATECH laboratory for 20 years and he has been the leader of the Plasma Group of SUBATECH between 2002 and 2010 and between 2013 and 2018.

He has carried out research in heavy-ion physics working in the PHENIX experiment, between 1999 and 2004, and in the ALICE Collaboration at CERN, which he joined in 1998. He participated in the construction of the ALICE detector and led the Muon Forward Tracker project for its upgrade. He is also involved in the ALICE physics programme, focusing on open heavy-flavour, quarkonium and electroweak boson production.
